It’s that time of year again, when everyone’s spent half their pay check on a dodgy costume, and the production office suddenly smells like pumpkin spice and panic. We got to thinking…if famous horror film characters worked in production, what role on set would they be best suited for? Spoiler alert: you’ve probably worked with a few of them already.
The Mummy – 1ST AD
Always makes sure you’re wrapped on time (thankfully). Bit tetchy if you go over lunch by more than two minutes. You’ll hear them before you see them, shouting “Quiet on set!” with a radio that’s not had a day off since 5000BC. Still, without them, we’d all be wandering the desert wondering where lunch is.

Dracula – DOP
Forever insisting on another night shoot.“Light it with candles,” they say, like that’s not a fire risk.
Loves a shadow, hates a reflection, handy when they’re avoiding being on camera for the BTS. You’ll find them brooding in the corner, sipping their 14th coffee of the night like it’s a fine red vintage.

Freddy Krueger – Director
Dreams big...literally. Keeps the crew awake with wild ideas about “visual poetry” and “surreal realism” (whatever that means). Rocked up to set wearing a hat no one else could pull off. Half genius, half nightmare, and somehow it all turns out ace in the end.

Ghostface (Scream) – Producer
Constantly ringing after hours. Always starts the call with: “You free for a quick chat?” and it’s never quick. Could’ve sent a text. Should’ve sent a text. But no. You’ll hear that ringtone in your sleep. Budget spreadsheets and pure fear.

Jigsaw – Art Director
Loves a set build.“Bit of chain here, bit of rust there” and suddenly the whole department’s over budget again. If they ever say, “I’ve got a little game for you,” just… don’t ask. Half creative genius, half menace to petty cash.

Pennywise – Hair and Makeup Artist
Always ready to paint a smile… whether you want one or not. Turns up with a kit full of colour and far too much enthusiasm for fake blood. Still, their attention to detail and consistency is admirable, and clients never misbehave in the chair, funny how fear brings out the best posture...

And there you have it. Your very own horror-themed call sheet.
Happy Halloween from all of us at The Gate Films.
Now go forth, make magic, and maybe keep a bit of garlic in your kit bag… just in case.
