If you’re on the hunt for production studio spaces in the North West, you’ll know there any plenty of options out there. But which one is right for your campaign?
We’ve produced this quick rundown of a few personal favourites, so you can identify the perfect space for your unique needs. Panic over!
6. Northern Film and TV Studios
Based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, Northern Film and TV Studios is a little way out, but what it lacks in centrality it more than makes up for in thoughtful touches. Production studio spaces come with attached production offices and roller door access, and workshop tools, forklifts and cherry pickers are available on site for all your shooting needs.
Not ones to rest on their laurels, the studio also has a takeaway restaurant, infinity green screen studio and changing facilities for actors coming soon.
Space Studios in Gorton, Manchester, offers over 85,000 sq. ft. of production studio space as well as purpose-designed dressing and makeup facilities, laundry and prop storage space.
There’s every amenity you need, including security, extensive parking, unlimited power, parking and on site catering facilities. However, you will need to bring in all the equipment to shoot your content, so if you’re looking to borrow cameras this won’t be the ideal choice.
4. Z Film Studios
Located in Stockport, Z Film Studios was established as Vector TV over 30 years ago. With a long heritage in film and TV, Z Film Studios has in-house facilities that include dressing rooms, a green room and an art department.
The independent TV and film studio has remained a family business, but the expert team are true professionals who can advise on set design, lighting setup, talent casting and kit sourcing.
Dreading the practical elements of a huge shoot? These guys also have a kitchen, catering manager and chef and can feed up to 60 hungry crew members!
3. Dock 10
Is “go big or go home” your daily mantra? Based in the heart of Mediacity, Dock10 offers production studio spaces in the North West tailor-made for entertainment and large scale productions.
With ten purpose-built television production studios ready to handle any size and style of show, they also have gaffers and sparks on site to facilitate your production. Dock10 also offers comprehensive post-production capabilities and consultancy if you’re looking to build your very own production facilities.
2. Old GTV Studios (Granada TV)
If you think about iconic production studio spaces in the North West, this might spark some memories. Once known as the Old Granada Studios, All Studios is now part of ‘Enterprise City’, an ambitious Manchester redevelopment programme with production space at its centre.
Currently being refurbished, additional studio space is planned to appear in the next two years. Film and TV stage space is currently available across one outdoor filming lot and three indoor stages, with loading dock doors for large scale art department productions.
Based in the centre of Manchester, studios come fully equipped for TV and radio broadcasting, concerts and music production, and film and television, with facilities including offices, dressing rooms, make-up, wardrobe and workshops.
1. Foundry Film Studios
A stone's throw from Salford’s Mediacity, the Foundry Film Studios holds a special place in our hearts (and our stomachs). No need for sad-looking sandwiches for lunch, Deliveroo is perfectly positioned right on the doorstep to cater for your shoot!
Now for the technical details. Great for smaller shoots and tighter budgets, there are production studio spaces perfect for producing all kinds of content, including an infinity cove, kitchen and table area and even an overhead rig. Whether you’re shooting stills or bringing in green screen, there are options aplenty.
The Foundry Film Studios can also help to facilitate your production, so if you’re new to town and feeling a bit lost, this is a great place to start.
