The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the kids are all playing outside *RECORD SCRATCH* not this summer apparently! With all the drizzle and grey skies we are getting this summer, there’s no other choice than to sit in and stick a summer film on - here are a few picks from the guys here at the Gate…

DIRTY DANCING (1987)
dirty dancing

Charlie - Head of Commercial & Marketing: Such a classic and just reminds me of summer holidays as a teenager and maybe the odd summer romance....

Lauren - Finance Manager: The ultimate summer holiday romance film, good girl meets bad boy on holiday. I've watched it a thousand times and still love it so much.

MY GIRL (1991)

My girl

Rhiannon - Managing Partner & Executive Producer: Romance and tragedy!

JAWS (1975)

Jaws

Michael - Head of Post-Production: The greatest (and original) summer blockbuster and quite simply the greatest film of all time, Jaws would be my summer movie pick. If it's raining outside then pop on Jaws to feel the glare of the Amity sun, long golden beaches and warm blood in the water!

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 (2007)

hsm 2

Chloe - Video Editor: Has a nice summer feel with some absolute classic tunes- channelling my inner Sharpey Evans #fabulous!

Hannah - Content Developer: A rare instance of a sequel far exceeding the original in quality - it's got terrible 2000's outfits, it's got self-discovery, it's got existential baseball-themed dance numbers... the perfect summer film.

10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU (1999)

10 things i hate about you

Hollie - Senior Producer: I remember when it came out, me and my friends used to watch it on repeat on VHS! It's not particularly 'summer' but I am sure it was a summer release and had very American High School summer vibes about it!

THE PARENT TRAP (1998)

The-Parent-Trap-movie-scene-1

Hannah P - Production Assistant: A nostalgic, feel good film. The soundtrack alone puts me in a summery mood, with songs like Here Comes the Sun & This Will Be (an Everlasting Love). A film about re-dsicovering love and family. What's not to love? Plus I can't get over how sweet a young Lindsay Lohan is (and how funny her British accent is).

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (2017)

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME

Sasha - Production Assistant: Such a warm and light colour palette and what's not to love about a forbidden summer romance? Anything Timothee Chalamet has starred in is a must watch and given that it's set in Northern Italy in the peak of the heat is about as Summery as you can get. With beautiful landscapes, amazing set dressing and a heart throbbing narrative, Guadagnino's NAILED this must watch.

TOY STORY 3 (2010)

Nathan - Production Manager: I remember the summer it came out I went to the cinema 6 times to see it and I think it's probably the best one in the series!

SAFE HAVEN (2013)

safe haven

Lindsay - Senior Production Manager: Cheesy easy watch and set in a small seaside quiet American deep south town. Also makes me crave seafood!

MAMMA MIA (2008)

mamma-mia-1529004762

Holly - Multimedia Designer: It's Summer-y, feel good, cheesy, and has a great cast and iconic music. When it got released me and my Mum were on holiday together and it's the only film we've ever gone to see in the cinemas twice, everyone clapped at the end and it was super special getting to experience that with her and seeing her so happy. The second one however came out a few summers later and had me bawling my eyes out from the first 5 minutes, so I pretend that doesn't exist.

AQUAMARINE (2006)

aquamarine-1_668_330_80_int_s_c1

Nicky - Junior Flame Artist: It’s a childhood film that I can rewatch again and again because who doesn’t love a mermaid romcom. Might be controversial to say but it’s defo the best mermaid film out there.

THE LOST BOYS (1987)

Lost boYS

Robbie - Content Creator/ Team PA: A personal favourite of mine; from the vampires, to the soundtrack, to the muscular sax player on the beach. What more can you want from a summer film? *Cue music* CRYYYY LITTLE SISTER!
